J&J Auto Racing Sweeps DIRTcar Nationals
McKENZIE, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2018) – The month of February has been unseasonably warm in Florida, but for J&J Auto Racing it’s been simply scorching hot.
Donny Schatz and Sheldon Haudenschild put the Sprint Car world on notice last week as they swept the prestigious DIRTcar Nationals five-night run at Volusia Speedway Park (VSP) in Barberville, Fla. Schatz kicked off the week with domination as he romped to two consecutive Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Series (ASCoC) feature event wins on Feb. 7 – 8.
Schatz and the No. 15 Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team took it’s first win at VSP without crew chief Ricky Warner at the helm. J&J Auto Racing wishes Warner a speedy recovery as he undergoes surgery to treat renal cancer later this week.
Haudenschild picked up his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win at VSP in the season opener on Feb. 9th. Haudenschild and the No. 17 Stenhouse, Jr./Marshall Racing (SJM) team also put J&J Auto Racing in the winner’s circle in ASCoC competition on Feb. 3. The two wins marked Haudenschild’s first career triumphs in the sunshine state.
Schatz and the No. 15 team (Warner, Steve Swenson and Brad Mariscotti) romped to two additional victories at VSP as they laid claim to the final two nights of WoO racing action on Feb. 10 – 11. Schatz and co. went four-for-five to cap off a phenomenal week in Florida. Leading the WoO point standings as the series exits Florida, Schatz will return to racing action in Texas on Feb. 23. His year-to-date sits at six. The DIRTcar Nationals title marked Schatz’s first career triumph, seeing him take home the “Big Gator.”
Also winning in Florida in a J&J Auto Racing entry was Hayden Campbell. Taking top honors against the Top Gun Series at East Bay Raceway Park in Riverview, Fla. Campbell’s two victories Feb. 2 - 3 helped him to earn the Winter Nationals Championship title.
Rusty Hickman furthered J&J Auto Racing’s win streak down under on Feb. 3 as he won the Ninth Round of Eureka Sprint Car Series competition at Wangaratta Speedway in Australia. The win marked Hickman’s first of 2018. He was followed to the line by J&J Auto Racing driver Shannon Berry, who finished fifth.
