TURPEN, STARKS WIN FOR J&J AUTO RACING
McKENZIE, Tenn. (May 3, 2017) – While many parts of the country were racing the rain over the weekend, J&J Auto Racing drivers Morgan Turpen and Trey Starks were enjoying the spoils of victory lane as they drove the McKenzie, Tenn., based manufacturer closer to the half-century mark on the season. Turpen doubled up in United Sprint Car Series (USCS) action at I-75 Raceway and Smoky Mountain Speedway in Tennessee while Starks earned his first career Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) victory at Bedford (PA) Speedway.
You may be familiar with the term girl power, but Turpen’s domination of the USCS Series of late has been anything but like a girl. The “Queen of the Wings,” as Turpen has been dubbed, has won the last four of five USCS Series contests in commanding fashion. While she may be a school teacher by day, Turpen’s leaving little doubt that she’s got nerves of steel behind the wheel of a Winged Sprint Car.
On Friday, April 28, Turpen drove forward from the sixth starting spot at I-75 Raceway to take the lead from car owner and teammate, Terry Gray, on lap 18. Holding off a late race challenge from fellow J&J driver, Derek Hagar, Turpen drove to her third consecutive series win. Hagar followed her to the line in second, with Gray finishing in third. On Saturday at Smoky Mountain Speedway, Turpen again was the class of the field, earning her fourth straight USCS Series triumph. Hagar, who again pushed a late race charge, finished second while Marshall Skinner rounded out the Top-five in fifth place. Gray completed the J&J Auto Racing lineup with an eighth place finish.
West Coast invader Starks, who hails from Washington State, earned not only his first ASCoC victory at Bedford Speedway on April 29, but his first Central Pennsylvania career triumph. Winning the 25-lap Roy Morral Tribute feature event in the Scott Gobrecht owned No. 44 entry, Starks won ASCoC Heat 4 and finished second in the first of two Dash events to earn a third place starting spot for the night. Taking command on lap three, Starks set sail and posted a commanding 2.2 second victory over the field.
