Turpen & Hagar Clinch Championships, Mcdonald Wins In New Zealand

McKENZIE, Tenn. (Nov. 23, 2016) – J&J Auto Racing drivers Morgan Turpen and Derek Hagar laid claim to two of three 2016 United Sprint Car Series (USCS) dirt championships to close out the season. Turpen, driving for owner Terry Gray, won six feature events en route to her second consecutive USCS National Series title. Turpen, who hails from Cordova, Tenn., made history to become the only women in sprint car and USCS Series history to win back-to-back national championships. Owner and fellow driver, Gray, also posted solid season stats as he finished second in both the USCS National division and the USCS Mid-South Thunder Series.

Hagar picked up the USCS Mid-South Thunder Series championship, winning 14 races behind the wheel of a J&J Auto Racing entry. The Arkansas native collected a total of 16 wins in 2016, tying his record for the most in a single season. In addition to the wins, Hagar collected 37 top-five finishes and 42 top-10 finishes in 55 races. His final win of the 2016 season came at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., on Nov. 12. Hagar has now won all three USCS division titles in his career.

New Zealand’s Jamie McDonald won his fourth winged sprint car event of the 2016 season at Baypark Family Speedway on Nov. 19. Pulling the seven-pill for the heat race line-up, McDonald came through the field in short order to finish third in his heat race. In the second heat of the night, McDonald started ninth and drove to third. Entering the feature event as the high point qualifier, McDonald chose the outside row one starting position and took the lead at the green flag. Leading from green to checkered, McDonald took the win in the No. 71 entry.
